Conserve, Reuse, Recycle

In the sentence: "Reuse provides maximum function for given material and energy input. Quite simply, use what you have until it can no longer function. the it's time to recycle."  it gave the whole point of this article.

I like how Samreu kept certain information from the reader. I felt like it worked very well because it kept my attention and made me keep reading. I believe the intent of the essay was to get us to go green. It was not to get us to simply give our bodies to science, but to help the world in whatever way we can.  By talking about the common topic of recycling people will be willing to read the rest of the article. Going green is a very popular interest these days and it a good thing so many people want to save the earth. Reuse, like Samreu says, is important so we don't take what we have for granted and waste things. He reuses his body mind and heart throughout his life. he doesn't just retire like most Americans he keeps using is body for new jobs/donations, he reuses his mind by thinking of new solutions and always working hard, and he reuses his heart by keeping up and never giving up his love for life. By telling us his different experiences it shows us different ways we can help out. This writing style was effective because he kept my interest and gave me topics I can relate to.

Savior of the Nations

The theme of this poem is praise and glory. I love how it says "Hast o'er sin the victory won." this shows we need to give all the glory to Jesus for winning the battle of sin with the devil for us. He takes all of our sins and washes them away. Also the praise theme comes in during stanza 7 which states "Praise to God the Father sing, Praise to God the Son, our King, Praise to God the Spirit be Ever and eternally." The poem uses logos a lot because it used the logical facts from scripture to show us why we should praise God and Jesus for everything he had to go through for us. The simple fact that he was the son of God and he won our battles shows that he is worthy of praise. I also think that word choice helps to bring about the theme. Luther uses the word "praise" on several accounts. And when he uses phrases like "Not by human flesh and blood, By the Spirit of our God," it proves that he is more then worthy of the praise and glory we should be giving him. This poem is a great example of the Christan faith and the central theme is true.

Is Christ Mentioned?

Christ was mentioned about 45 times during  Reverend Borghardt's sermon.

Some of the driving verbs I caught were: set apart, died, rose, slain, took sin, makes holy, is lamb, puts, wants, got, gives, says, came, makes, slows, grabs, holds, smiles, reigns, and lives.

Edward’s sermon had a theme of fear. He was speaking fiercely about the wrath and power of God. It was very harsh and realistic. Although it did not mention the name of Christ too often, it was very realistic. He uses fear to make people want to become part of our faith. Borghardt’s sermon had a more compassionate theme. It was talking about the grace that God has given us. And what he has done is doing and will do for us. They have extremely contrasting themes, but they both convey a true message to bring people into the faith.

Not Even Air Fresheners?!

1.) In this article it tells about the law banning things from hanging on your rear view mirror. Some say it is just an excuse for police officers to pull people over. There is no reason for them to be pulling you over for having an air freshener or small prayer beads hanging from your mirror. It would only be necessary if it really was a driving hazard and obstructed your view.
2.)  "I call it a 'gotcha' law. It's an excuse to pull someone over." I like this quote because it shows that police officer use any excuse they can to get people in trouble. I don't think this is the only 'gotcha' law either. I think that its your own car so  unless it is a major distraction, they need to back off and let you put what you want in it.
3.) I do not agree with this ban. It would be very unfair to pull somebody over when 99.9 percent of cars on the road have things dangling from their mirrors. People also put things their for real meaning sometimes. Its not always about the looks. I personally have a small rosary hanging from my mirror and it makes me feel just a little bit safer. I know i am not the only one with this theory. The ban should definitely be taken away because police officers could not possible pull everybody with something on their mirror over, and this law would never be enforced.

Is Race an Issue?

1.Mitch Albom's article is talking about LeBron James and how he chose to display what his team choice was. one author chose to as the question "Do you think there's a role that race plays in this?" and Mitch goes on to say that race really has nothing to do with it. he tells how when all the good things are happening to LeBron race is never brought up. But when anything bad happens race but be the only reason. He tells that if LeBron suddenly became "Leo" race would have never even been brought up. so basically he is saying LeBron James being African American doesn't have anything to do with his newly found bad rep. This bad publicity has everything to do with his bad character.
2.I agree with this article. I think it is stupid that racial issues is the first thing that is always brought up in these types of situations. LeBron James made one mistake. Don't we all? Is it because we are white? No. Its because we are human. He doesn't deserve to be totally embarrassed, and he is obviously still a good athlete. so I agree in his point that race is not an issue in this argument.
3.I think that Albom has many good points in this article. I think his most effective one would be "Leo. I like how he contrasts it with "white name" and everything changes. He tells what happened as if it were a normal thing. Race is never brought up. That just goes to show our nation still has some work to do.
